Sites and Settings Guide

Introduction

The Sites & Settings page lets you customize the unique settings for your login seat, and is your command center for switching Dashboards, creating and subscribing to alerts, retrieving your API key, and much more.

For most users — if your login seat is designated as an Author or Editor — the Sites & Settings page is divided into three tabs: Sites, Profile, and Settings. Login seats with these roles can only modify settings specific to their own login seat.

This Settings Home screen is accessible with the Sites & Settings button in the Dashboard, as well as using the URL: https://chartbeat.com/publishing/home.

If on the other hand you have the role of Administrator, your Settings Page has additional access to manage the permissions of other users, as well as actions to change the account itself. If you are an Account Administrator please skip to the Account Administrator section.

Sites and Profile

The Sites tab shows you which Dashboards your login seat has access to as well as a quick glance at the number of concurrents on that domain in real-time. By selecting the "Plus Icon" to the left of the domain name it will drop down with a list of all sections that have been implemented on that domain.

The Profile tab lets you change any personal details about your Chartbeat login seat, including your name, phone number, and email address. It also allows you to view what role you were assigned, which Dashboards you have access to, and let's you change the password you use to login.

Finally, if you need to request a change in your permissions, the "Contact Administrator" button will let you email all Administrators for your account, who can assign you additional permissions.

Settings

The Settings tab is where you can set up custom fields and unique to your login seats, and is comprised of four subgroups: Alerts, API Keys, OAuth Tokens, and Two-Factor Authentication.

Alerts

With this tab you can view and edit your existing alerts, as well as create new ones. There are two types of alerts. Spike Alerts for when a page experiences a sudden spike in traffic, and 30-Day High Alerts for when total active visits on a page reaches its highest point in the last 30 days.

Select "Edit" to specify which domains an alert applies to, add a specific section or author, and select the communication method, email, text message, or iPhone push notification.

Note: When selecting Text Message, be sure that the correct phone number is entered in your Profile tab.

API Keys

While the data collected by Chartbeat is displayed using the tools of the Publishing Suite, we believe that your data is your to keep, and using our API Explorer you can make an HTTP GET request to an API endpoint and receive the data encoded in JSON.

Each API Key has Domain and Accesses parameters specific to the data is allows you to query. The Domain field dictates which domain(s) it has access to, and Accesses specifies which API Endpoints it has access to.

Note: Your API Keys are unique 32-character strings that grant you access to your domains' data, and as such should never be shared, put into emails, or exposed on your site. If one of your API Keys is compromised, it is best practice to delete it immediately.

Select "Create API Key" to add a new API Key with access to specific domains and API endpoints.

OAuth Tokens

OAuth Tokens are designed to allow access tokens to be issued to third-party clients with the approval of the end-user. If you are using any third-party Chartbeat integration your OAuth Tokens will appear here.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-Factor authentication is the practice of pairing a password that you type with a verification code that is sent to you after you enter your password. It is the recommended way to better help protect your privacy and safety on the internet.

If you have not already set up your Two-Factor Authentication you can opt to receive your verification code through either the Google Authenticator App or an SMS text message.

Administrator Privileges

As an account administrator your login seat has additional privileges not seen by Editors and Authors.

In the Sites home screen, additional options are the People tab, certain Settings, and the "Add New Site" button.

Add New Site

To add a new site, select the "Add New Site" button and you'll be directed to the Chartbeat Publishing Setup Page where you'll be guided through the activation process.

People Management

The People page is how an Account Administrator can manage the other login seats that have access to the Publishing Product. By selecting a login seat from the left-hand menu bar, you can edit that login seat's role, name, and email address.

By selecting the 'Reset Password' link to the right of the email field you can send that user a email containing a link that lets them reset their password.

By unchecking the "Profile Active" field, you may deactivate a login seat, and activate a login seat by checking it.

The "Add New Person" button creates a new login seat for an email address that you enter, and automatically sends a welcome email to them.

Note that you will be served an error if the email address you're trying to is already connected to a login seat, as the same email cannot exist twice in within Chartbeat. Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or the Chartcorps Team if you run into any trouble.

Finally you can use the Dashboard permissions check boxes to grant and revoke domain access, as well as access to specific sections or authors.

Domain Management

The Domain Management tab is a Settings field that only appears for an Account Administrator, and lets you set the Time Zone of each of your Dashboards, as well as allocating your total concurrents across your various domains.

Each domain has a "cap" — the point at which the Dashboard will no longer track data. When a Dashboard is "capped out" because of a sudden spike in traffic, a client has the option to request "Burst Pricing", a 24 hour increase in their cap where we charge $5 for every 1000 concurrents they went over their usual cap.

Please send an email to support@chartbeat.com with the word "Burst" in the subject or body of the email and the domain for which you need a burst.

Integrations

The Chartbeat Slack integration makes it impossible for newsroom teams to not be connected to their content's performance across all their communication platforms. After you connect your company's Slack with your Chartbeat Publishing account you'll start receiving updates and alerts as they happen and be able to use unique Chartbeat slash commands to ask real-time questions about your content's performance.

To activate the integration simply select the "Connect" button under the Slack icon and you'll be redirected to the Slack page and guided through the process.
